Officials from Plainfield School District 202 announced today that a refined student attendance boundary plan would implement a multi-year, phased approach. Only the high school student attendance boundaries would be adjusted for the 2026-2027 school year, according to the updated model from RSP & Associates.

RSP will present the updated plan and enrollment analysis before the Board of Education’s December 17 meeting, before the Board votes that night.

Dr. Glenn Wood, Superintendent, said the plan was revised after hosting public input sessions and considering community feedback.

The updated plan is on the District Planning and Progress website.

Background and Timeline

August 2023

The District partnered with RSP & Associates to analyze student attendance boundaries, provide enrollment projections and recommend potential adjustments to ensure that our schools remain safe, effective and well-prepared for future growth.

September 24, 2025

RSP submitted a proposed plan to adjust student attendance boundaries.

October 2025

The District collected public feedback via two public input sessions, emails, phone calls, and surveys.

December 2025

RSP presented an updated model that incorporates new functional capacity standards for elementary and middle schools, community feedback, current enrollment numbers, and new residential developments.

This updated plan aligns with the top three guiding principles identified by community members and the Board of Education:

  • Duration of boundaries

  • Enrollment

  • Building use and fiscal considerations

Recommended Phased Approach

This phased strategy addresses the most pressing capacity concerns through strategic adjustments to student attendance boundaries without requiring immediate facility expansion.

Phase 1: High School Boundaries

The administration recommends implementing the revised high school student attendance boundaries to address current and projected overcrowding at Plainfield North High School.

This adjustment is necessary now to maintain safe, effective learning environments and ensure efficient facility use. The impacted subdivisions are on Page 13 of the boundary proposal.

Once the Board of Education approves the boundary recommendations, procedures will be created around “student transfer request” aligned with policy 7:30 “Student Assignment and Intra-District Transfer.”

Phase 2: Elementary and Middle School Boundaries

The administration recommends postponing changes to elementary and middle school student attendance boundaries until the District determines whether there is a need for new construction.

This approach avoids unnecessary or premature student relocations and ensures boundary adjustments align with long-term facility planning.

This may mean increased class sizes in the elementary and middle schools beginning in 2026-2027 until the District and Board of Education determine the best way to manage current and predicted overcrowding.

Next Steps

District administration will continue to monitor school capacity, local housing development, and community growth as further recommendations are developed. The District administration will receive a quarterly RSP report on how our community is changing.
